Did you know that Singapore is one of the most expensive cities to live in? But really, how true is that when you come here to visit? Even the local government is trying to debunk the myths to help tourists to come to Singapore by laying out the facts. Well, I’m not an economist but I just like budget-friendly and (most importantly) free things to do in Singapore. Lol.
If you’re convinced that enjoying Singapore means you’ve got to whip out your credit card every five seconds, think again! (Because as someone who lives here, I would NEVER wanna do that… Yikes!)

Outdoor & Nature Parks Singapore
Gardens by the Bay
Have you really visited Singapore if you’ve never spent some time at Gardens by the Bay?
Sure, the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories might come with a price tag, but guess what? Strolling through the fresh outdoor gardens is totally free! You’ll be surrounded by stunning flora and the iconic Supertree Grove. So, go ahead and fill your Instagram feed with colorful flowers and quirky landscapes that will make your friends green with envy! #FeelingBlessed
Merlion Park

What makes Singapore so unique is our national mythical creature – the Merlion.
Where else can you snap a pic with a half-lion, half-fish statue that’s basically the poster child for Singapore? Merlion Park not only serves up beautiful views of Marina Bay Sands but also lets you feel the refreshing spray of water from the majestic Merlion. It’s a must-visit if you want that classic Singapore shot and, yes, it won’t cost you a single cent. Also yes, the moment you go to this very spot – you’ll see the “iconic” Singapore shot by the dozens of tourists doing the very same pose – you’ll know what I mean when you get there. *wink wink*
MacRitchie Reservoir

Looking for some exercise and a dose of nature? Then, welcome to MacRitchie Reservoir! This place has it all – serene trails winding through lush rainforest and a treetop walk that’ll have you feeling like Tarzan. And hey, you might even spot some cheeky monkeys swinging around. Just try not to take a selfie with one—trust me, they don’t like that! (Please keep all your food inside your bag too.) This place have various trails winding around in the middle of the forest, from my experience that longest trail I took was 2 hours of leisure walking pace. This place is great for morning hikes. Maybe not at night because there are no lamp posts in the middle of the forest. Just sayin’.
Mandai Wildlife West
This is a newly re-opened park in Mandai in 2025 where you will find the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise just a walking distance or a shuttle bus away from the West park.
This place looks amazing with the instagram-worthy waterfall literally welcoming you. Best place for the kiddos too with their outdoor playground. Many cafes and restaurants available to dine after your outdoor activities. This feels like a mini safari in the middle of the city.
Singapore Botanic Gardens

Forget about those overpriced theme parks! The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with majestic trees and stunning plant species. Take a lovely stroll inside this garden and its lake. You can even pack mini lunch or afternoon tea snacks, and have a beautiful picnic on the grass. Maybe recline among the orchids as if you’re trying to be the star of your own nature documentary.
Fort Canning Park

I love history. Now, if history’s your thing too, then get lost in Fort Canning Park, where you can stroll among remnants of Singapore’s colonial past. With beautiful landscapes and a Spice Garden that’ll have you feeling like the master chef you aspire to be, it’s a perfect low-key getaway. Just picture this: walking through spice-scented paths while contemplating whether you should try Chinese or Indian for dinner—decisions, decisions!
Pasir Ris Park
Pasir Ris Park is where sandy beaches meet lush greenery, making it a family favorite for a reason! Whether you’re game for a friendly frisbee toss or simply chilling by the beach with a book, this park radiates a chill vibe that screams relaxation – pretty windy too. Here’s a Bonus: the ocean view is just perfect for your “I’m on holiday” selfie that’ll leave all your friends drooling with jealousy.
Changi Airport Connector

Wait for it… The Changi Airport Connector isn’t your typical boring pathway. Nope! It’s a scenic route with a dinosaur ripping away the fences! Lol. Where else can you find that?! So perfect for a leisurely stroll or bike ride, and it boasts some of the best views you’ll ever find near an airport. Seriously, it’s like Changi Airport is flexing its inner T-rex moments!

Little India, Singapore

Brace yourself for a riot of colors and aromas as you wander through Little India! This vibrant neighborhood is a testament to Singapore’s Indian culture. Check out the stunning temples and street art, and don’t skip the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple—just try not to take a nap on the colorful floor, okay?
Kampong Glam, Singapore

Stroll through Kampong Glam, where the majestic Sultan Mosque is waiting for you. With shops flaunting traditional textiles and a killer mural scene along Haji Lane, this neighborhood is basically the hidden gem for Insta-worthy shots. So make sure you grab your friends to do some pictorial in here. If you’re a solo traveler than you can ask one of the uncles or aunties around.
Haw Par Villa Park

I’m a fan of weird, mythical, and paranormal stuff. If you’re into those kind of things. Good! Then Haw Par Villa is your new happy place. Home to over 1,000 wacky statues depicting Chinese mythology, this theme park is such an out-there experience that it’ll leave you questioning reality. Remember to be open-minded and be curious when coming here. You will learn many things (and maybe question your life choices…) Also, bring your sense of humor for this wild ride; you’re definitely gonna need it!
Budget-Friendly Entertainment
Garden Rhapsody Light Show

Prepare for your jaw to hit the floor at the Garden Rhapsody light show! I’ve watched this a couple of times and yet, I am still amazed! Every evening (7.45pm & 8.45pm), the Supertrees light up to the beat of music, making for a magical experience that won’t cost you a thing. Just bring a mat and find comfy spot on the ground, and simply look up and watch those lights dancing around to the beat of the sounds. Just try not to wig out when the lights dance around!
Esplanade’s Theatres by the Bay
The Esplanade’s Theatre by the bay isn’t just pretty; it’s like a cultural treasure chest! I’ve seen this stage by the water has done many cultural concerts and even international concerts from bands overseas. You could just be taking a stroll along the bay when music hits your ears. This place is loaded with free performances all year long, you never know when you might come across that unmissable concert, film screening, or open-air theater show. Keep your eyes peeled on the schedule on their official website so you don’t miss out on something spectacular.
Gelam Gallery (Outdoor Art Gallery)

One thing you can do in Singapore for free is to go mural hunting. From murals on a wall to even the most colorful HDB buildings you’ve ever seen. They’re everywhere and Gelam Gallery is one of them. Art lovers, rejoice! This is an outdoor art gallery lined with vivid murals and urban art that will make even the most stoic art critic crack a smile.
